Trip down memory lane 1…

I was searching for a video on YouTube (as one does when one has too much time on one’s hands :)). I stumbled upon some of my old favourites. Here are a couple.

Amazon.co.uk’s ‘free’ delivery costs too much!

July 11, 2009 28 comments

I ordered some items from Amazon about 2 weeks days ago using their ‘free delivery’ option. Estimated delivery date was 5 days ago. Well,  the postman arrived on that day, there was no delivery so I phoned Amazon. The customer services officer suggested that I wait another week and if I don’t receive it, I should ring them and they’ll send out another one.

I just checked my emails and there was one from Amazon (sent 2 days ago) telling me that they are refunding my payment because my shipping address is ‘undeliverable’.  My address has not been undeliverable all these years so why now? Anytime I use their free Super Saver Delivery, I have all sorts of problems.   Amazon’s website states that

When a postal carrier returns an undeliverable package to us, we issue a full refund (including delivery charges).

We are unable to re-send packages that are returned to us as undeliverable. If you would still like to purchase those items, you’re welcome to place a new order on our website.

I checked the latest price on one of the items that I had ordered and it now costs more than double what I paid for it 😯 ! I’ll ring them in the morning. Hopefully, they will agree deliver my items at the price I paid when I first ordered them.  If that does not work, then I’ll have to go shopping on the high street.  It’s so annoying.

To clean or not to clean?

I went to see my doctor today. She now wants me to go for some blood tests to find out if there’s anything else going on with me besides the stress that I’ve been under. After my doctor’s appointment, I could not face going home and watching day time TV so, though I felt very tired, I decided to take a long walk.

Yoyo Bitters

Yoyo Bitters

My walk took me to a beauty salon where I ended up getting my nails done and my eyebrows waxed! After that, I did a bit of grocery shopping. I popped into an African store to buy some okra. The shop owner told me “You look very tired.  See those bags under your eyes”  (Diplomacy is not one of her strong points). I told her I was feeling very tired and she suggested I try something called ‘Yoyo Bitters’. It’s supposed to be good for cleansing the system. I did not believe her but I thought I would try it out just in case it was the miracle cure for my constant exhaustion.  I could not wait to get home to try my Yoyo Bitters.

Well, as it turns out, it was so bitter that I had to have some chocolate to get rid of the taste.  To make matters worse, it was only after drinking the Yoyo that I found this story someone had posted online.

I Drank YOYO Bitters today and today is my first time…
Since morning i have been in the toilet, gassing out junks into the WC.
This made me not to go to training today.
What do i do now?

I hope I don’t have the same problem. Next time when I want to cleanse my system, I think I’ll go for a colonic irrigation instead.

Debates – agreeing to disagree?

April 18, 2009 Leave a comment

I was having a discussion with a friend. The discussion turned into a debate which got rather heated and I suggested that we agree to disagree but he refused. He got annoyed and yelled at me. I calmly told him that I would speak to him when he has calmed down and as I walked away, he said that I lacked passion.  Later on when he had calmed down he explained that his reason for saying that was that he expected me to shout back at him and make my point because doing that shows passion. I did not know what to say to that because his explanation did not make sense to me.  Once a debate gets to the point where people are shouting at each other, it is no longer a debate. It becomes an argument.

When I’m having a debate and it gets heated, then that’s a sign that it’s time to stop so I agree to disagree.   Having a debate is not about forcing my views on the opposing side or the opposing side forcing their views on me. It’s about explaining why we have the views that we do on a particular topic.  Shouting does not makes one’s point any more valid. In my opinion, people who start shouting during a debate are either trying to detract from the fact that they have no valid points to support their stance or they are immature and have no business entering a debate with anyone.
